Why I built Shop-Rate

Hello, my name is Brit Fay and I am the founder of Shop-Rate.com. I created this website out of sheer frustration. I was stuck at an OK job and I was looking to expand my horizons. A local mechanic's job at a large construction company near me reached out. I was excited since they had really nice equipment and have grown a lot in the last couple years. The recruiter listed off all these great benefits and their pay system seemed lucrative. I didn't know anybody who has worked there but I asked my Snap-on guy since they were on his route. He proceeded to inform me that a lot of guys have been leaving due to shitty management. How would I have gotten that information if they weren't on his route?

So the idea for Shop-Rate.com came to me, kind of like in the movies. What if there was a place a mechanic can go and get actual, inside information from someone that worked at a shop that wasn't being paid to do so? There are similar sites for more white-collar workers, but we're not looking for good stapler supply, nice printers or robust cubicles. We want good pay, steady work, good training opportunities, a safe enviroment to work on, good equipment and a positive workplace culture among many things that makes a good shop.

We are unique and we, as technicians, each have a certain type of enviroment we want to work in. Some of us like the clean, quiet shop with the built in toolboxes. Some may like the dirty, hole in the wall shop where you can make all the noise and throw things.

Hopefully what I have created is a place where, let's say you see a job opening at a shop down the street, you can check out what people are saying and get the real inside scoop. This is also a place where, if you work for a place that is in real need of change, you can use as a megaphone (anonymously) to tell the world what the hell is going on. Maybe you work for an amazing shop that has trouble getting good help and you can boost that place to get more good people to work there.

This goes for all types of mechanic-related jobs, whether you work on cars, trucks, motorcycles, buses, heavy equipment, airplanes, boats, hovercraft or even spaceships.
