Working Technician
1) Pay: Quick Service pays $15. Flat rate starts at $22. Expert $30, Master $33 and MDT $38. You pay for every single part you break or damage. Make sure you do write down the RO# b/c there had been some misunderstandings where some techs had to pay for stuffs they did not work on. No extra pay on video MPI. You have to do video MPI, battery testing, fill up windshield washer fluid on every cars and they do pay some attention to these and will make an example out of you [customer leave a review of their washer fluid not being filled, battery tester connected to internet shows the number of batteries being tested compared to car counts, etc] 2) Dispatch: the better or higher certified you are, the more s*** work they give you. All the good gravy works would go to favored hispanic techs. The rest of you can go kick rocks. Main line tech would have to do flat tire repair, single tire replacement and battery replacement. Quick Lube would not do that because they are too slow and not trusted to handle those [because stupid w****** named Jesus p***** off and snitched on all the good ones. They all quit and fired] Management: If Jesus Castillo hates you [ he is a worthless POS himself anyway. Former SA who couldn't sell, no ASE certs, no working on cars experience but somehow made it to the shop foreman position], he won't give you no work unless its some BS that he thinks you'll get stuck or won't get paid or just to agitate you. He will tell lies, make something up or just straight up watching everything you do so he can find a mistake and he will go snitch to Johnny Nickel [service director] and get you fired or written up. This Johnny guy will only listen to one side of the story [which is Jesus' side, NOT YOU]. You are not allowed to get sick or have out-of-schedule days off. Only vacation. You would have to come in for 8 hrs on major holidays. 4) Shop culture: toxic. Everyone snitches on someone else to make themselves look good instead of helping and just focusing on working. There are different groups who stay to themselves and f*** everyone else. People steal your tools and don't give it back unless you saw them take it or found your tools on their tool cart or something like that. Favoritism runs far and wide. They wont' pay you 8hr to go to training. You lose 24 hrs to go to a class.
High car count but slowly getting less. Good upsells but it was down 80% from last year.
Old and not maintained shop equipment. Read the details!!!
Liked most
High car counts with good tickets and upsells and I made some good money.
Liked least
Stressed. Discriminated. Favoritism. Toxic working environment. Equipment is not maintained. Bad management. Service advisors here think they are gods except for certain ones who still act like human beings.
Advice for mechanics
Make sure you know how to get on your knees and then you will do good. Otherwise, go work for Sewell Lexus or another Toyota dealership.
